Blipr ("we", "us"), operated by Rick Foster, is a location-aware app for sharing short, honest thoughts that fade after 24 hours. Your posts are anonymous to other people — no one else sees who wrote them. We do keep account-linked usage information ourselves to operate, secure, and improve the Service and to measure local sponsorships (described below). We built Blipr privacy-first, and this policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Blipr is an adults-only service for people 18 and older. That applies to all of it, including browsing and listening without an account.
We ask your date of birth on a neutral screen at the point you create an account — the step that unlocks posting, reacting, and Shouts. We deliberately don't ask browsers: it means we hold a date of birth for far fewer people, which is less personal data collected overall. If the date shows you are under 18, no account is created, and we remember that answer on your device so you aren't simply let back in by restarting the app.
We don't build advertising profiles of anyone, and we don't sell your personal information. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, contact us using the details at the end of this policy and we'll remove it.
We keep usage analytics linked to your account so we can run the Service, keep it safe, understand what's working, and measure sponsorships. This data lives on our systems (Google Firebase/Cloud) and is for our internal use. We do not sell it, and we do not use cross-app advertising or tracking networks. Your posts on the map remain anonymous to other users regardless.
On the website (blipr.me) we also use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site — which pages are viewed, roughly which region a visit came from, and which link or advert brought someone here. We may connect this to Google Ads so we can tell whether our own advertising is working. This runs on the website only — the Blipr app does not load it, and none of it is joined to the content of your posts.
Blipr may show occasional sponsored cards from local businesses while you browse. These are chosen by your approximate area only — used in the moment to pick a relevant card, with no profile built to do it. We never share your identity, location, or activity with advertisers; they receive only anonymous aggregate counts (for example, how many times their card was shown or tapped). Tapping a sponsored card may open the advertiser's own website, which is governed by that business's privacy practices, not ours. We do not use Google AdMob or other third-party ad networks.
Where the GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on these bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you request), legitimate interests (to keep the Service safe and prevent abuse), consent (e.g., device location, which you can withdraw in your settings), and legal obligation where applicable.
Submitted text is screened automatically for slurs, hate, threats, personal information, and content that names or targets a specific person, and we may use an automated AI moderation service for this. Posts you report are reviewed and may be hidden or removed. We do not use your posts to build advertising profiles.
We use your device's local storage to keep you signed in and remember app preferences (for example, which posts you've seen or hidden).
On the website, Google Analytics sets its own cookies (their names begin _ga) so it can tell a returning visit from a new one and measure sessions. You can block or clear them in your browser and Blipr will still work. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run ad networks such as Google AdMob.
Blipr lets you hear the songs attached to blips. To play full-length songs we use third-party music services, and this feature is governed by their terms and privacy policies in addition to ours:
We send only the song title and artist needed to find a track. We do not send your identity, phone, email, location, or the content of your posts to these music services.
We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, not for their own purposes:
We may disclose information if required by law or to prevent imminent harm, and we may transfer it as part of a merger or acquisition (subject to this policy). We do not sell personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
If you're a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you rights to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information. In the past 12 months we collected the categories described above (identifiers such as phone/email, approximate location, and user content) for the purposes listed. You have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. To exercise any of these, contact blipr.help@gmail.com.
We operate using infrastructure that may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers.
Blipr is an adults-only service and is not intended for anyone under 18. We ask your date of birth at sign-up and block accounts for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, contact blipr.help@gmail.com and we will delete it.
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections and a server-only write architecture, so the app cannot write directly to public data. Anonymity is built into the design: there is no public profile to expose. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If a breach affecting your personal data occurs, we will notify affected users and authorities as required by applicable law.
We do not track you across third-party sites, so we treat "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control signals as consistent with our practice of not selling or sharing data.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by a new date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
